A little bit about Shannon
My goal is to inspire you to have the courage to live the kind of life that is in your heart.
Hi, I’m Shannon. An obsessive reader, a novice sailor living in Stockholm and a Canadian at heart. I'm also a holistic nutritionist and food photographer who creates easy recipes to help you build confidence in the kitchen.
When I was 27 years old I moved from Canada to Australia and created a life for myself downunder which included lots of sunshine, local wineries and a career in finance. Although life was pretty great, I’d had this nagging feeling for a while that I wanted a career that would inspire my very hidden creative side. Completely unrelated to career development, I had recently decided to learn how to cook. I had been terribly unconfident in the kitchen and decided something had to change. So I bought my first cookbook, Jamie Oliver’s Everyday Superfood, and just started making my way through. After 4 years in Australia, I was feeling the urge to be closer to my family, so I made the move back to Canada and enrolled in the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition to pursue my growing interest in healthy cooking.
Naturally I created thegloriouskitchen.com to share all of this cooking & nutrition knowledge with the world. And after setting myself up on Instagram, I found myself falling in love with food photography. One morning as I was nearing the end of my studies, I woke up with this massive urge to get myself on TV. A month later this became a reality as I gave my first cooking segment on CTV Morning Live in Ottawa. It was a terrifying experience but so incredible and I fell in love with presenting and giving cooking demonstrations.
I have come to the realization that we can’t always know exactly where we’re headed in life but if we keep trying and working and putting ourselves out there, what we need to find will present itself.
After graduating as a Holistic Nutritionist, I once again packed my bags and this time joined my Aussie boyfriend Matt in Stockholm, Sweden. The reality of this move was tough as I found myself living in a teeny tiny apartment, with no real friends and connections or ability to speak the language. But I’ve strongly adopted the mindset that if I don’t give up, I can’t fail. I spent those first few months submitting proposals and applications at every opportunity, with little success. But then one afternoon, coffee with a new friend turned into an interview with a startup healthy eating app and next thing I know, I was taking on my first freelance job. I have come to the realization that we can’t always know exactly where we’re headed in life but if we keep trying and working and putting ourselves out there, what we need to find will present itself.
